Pacific 1940
Axis & Allies celebrates 25 years of strategy war gaming with the release of a deluxe theater-level game in December 2009. Axis & Allies Pacific 1940, designed and developed by Larry Harris, will utilize the updated rules established in A&A Anniversary Edition. Two new combat units will debut in this game, Tactical Bombers and Mechanized Infantry. Australia and New Zealand, joined together as the ANZAC forces, will debut as a new playable ally. China will field more forces than ever before, but will need all the help they can get from their allies the United States, ANZAC and the UK to withstand the might of Imperial Japan.

Axis & Allies Pacific 1940 will feature an oversized board that measures 35” wide by 32” high. With over 450 pieces, deluxe game components and local storage boxes, this game will raise the standard established by A&A Anniversary Edition. All new rules for neutral nations, naval & air bases, kamikaze attacks and convoy disruption will add even more depth and historical accuracy to this giant game.

Pacific 1940 details:

Deluxe version of Axis & Allies Pacific originally released in 2001
Stand alone game that can also combine with A&A Europe 1940
Two new combat units: tactical bombers and mechanized infantry
New power: ANZAC (Australia and New Zealand forces)
Updated A&A rules as debuted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition

LOOKS Interesting - and it comes December 2009!

I always saw the fighters as fighter-bombers and the bombers are generally used tactically... I wonder what exactly the tactical bombers will be in terms of what makes them unique. I imagine that mechanized infantry will just be very quick infantry?

When Axis and Allies is released in 2034 its going to be AAM and WaS on a massive single game board. Just wait.
Angel of Death

I'm looking forward to this. Axis & Allies Anniversary edition was great. But this sounds even better.

As someone who owns AA50  I am guessing this will be well worth the investment.

On a side note rumor is there will be a new European AA game as well and the Europe and Pacific game will tie togheter to create one massive game.

Afilter,

It's not a rumor at all, twas confirmed by Larry Harris (the game designer) on his own site/forum.

Not a fan of A&A50, feel it just stole the best parts of the Xeno games versions, however I'm really looking forward to getting both of these (Pacific and Europe).

Hmmm never experienced xeno games versions basically went from classic A&A to a few games of revised 20 + years later while in Afghanistan to AA50 last X-mas....WOW! Shocked

I also own Guadalcanal and the original Pacific which are both very nice.
I am sure both of the new games wil be great.  AA42 looks very disappointing, but I also think the intent is to draw new players in with a cheap version and not satisfy those that have played before.
