1941 British NA BuildWhat do you think about this:
English build:
(Italians are a bit further down)
4x Crusader II (Crusader platoon) 38 pts
British infantry platoon 17pts
consisting of:
2x SMLE Riflemen,
1x Inspiring lieutenant,
1x Bren Machine Gunner
1x Vickers MG
1x extra Vickers MG
1x Bedford 3t Truck 4 pts
2x Matilda II tank 26 pts
1x Humber Scout car 8 pts
Total: 105 pts - 15 units (if a platoon count for 5)
Planed tactic:
2 groups
1st one:
crusaders II, the humber, Both Vickers and the Bedford
Crusaders try to deny the objective as early as possible (either to get a good firing position to the objective or secure the objective depending on the terrain)
The Humber will try to harass ATGs or try to provide limited AA support until the 2 Vickers dismount from the Bedford and try to get in position to cover the crusader,
2nd group,
Everything else:
Infantry follows the Matilda II with Tally-ho from the lieutenant and arrive around turn 3 to the objective

I like it! Nice Build!
Makes me want to get 3 more crusaders.

I like your setup, and your reasoning behind it, I can almost imagine it but your point calculation is off or am I missing something?
4x Crusader II (Crusader platoon) 38 pts [cost 11 each giving you 44pts] Crusader II
British infantry platoon 17pts
consisting of:
2x SMLE Riflemen, [ 2x3=6]
1x Inspiring lieutenant, [10]
1x Bren Machine Gunner [5]
1x Vickers MG [8]
This adds up to 29...
1x extra Vickers MG
1x Bedford 3t Truck 4 pts
2x Matilda II tank 26 pts
1x Humber Scout car 8 pts
Total: 105 pts - 15 units (if a platoon count for 5)
This gives you a total of 119 pts and 14 units. I am not clear on the rules for platoons and am not sure how they count pt wise or the limitations.
If I am missing stuff please let me know because I have probably been making a lot of mistakes

buy the expanded rules, they have several platoons. Platoons cost less than the units in them.

if you want to learn about platoon, you can find them here:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/aam/ah20070920c
Basically, a platoon count as 5 units (even if there is only 3,4 or 12 in it) and you get the units written on the platoon card for the price of the platoon.

sweet!
I knew I was missing something there. I avoided buying the expanded rules as I thought they were just a set of rules with clarifications and some maps. I will pick them up today maybe.
I still like the idea of sending two groups , one to take and hold the objective and one to slow the advance or distract.
I have recently found that it is much easier to hold and try to defend then it is to battle for then control an objective.

MUCH different game using the advanced rules.

I had a little time to look and some look really good and you get extra points to use elsewhere. Is this WOTC's way of fixing misatkes? hmmmm...

Yes.

So what about this to counter it:
2x Carro armato M13/40 platoon: 62pts
- 6x Carro armato M13/40
1x Italian Infantry platoon: 15pts
- 1x Stalwart Lieutenant
- 3x Fuchile modello 1891
- 1x Breda Modello 37
1x AutoBlinda AB41 : 8pts
1x Extra Breda Modello 37 : 8pts
1x 47/32 Antitank Gun : 7pts
1x Carro Armato M11/39 : 10pts
Total : 110pts, I know, It's more than 15 units if a platoon count for 5 but I tried to stay within 15 physical units Total

Yeah the Italian build is not legal.
Take out the Autoblinda or ATG and just buy the 3 Carros individually.
|
Akela152
|
Well, we'll see in a few weeks if this build is legal or not

I cant see the Italians winning except for some sizable difference in dice rolling, the Matilda and the Crusaders easily win in that battle, the firepower is similar but the Matildas armor should last through the Italian tanks and ATG/artillery.....

I would say the British will win no problem.

I played the new scenario on the WotC site and the English destroyed the Italians/Germans I definately think the same will happen here....Akela152, did you get a chance to try this out?
|
Akela152
|
not yet... I have yet to find a player that is willing to play Italians (I have all the units, I just need a player) anyone in the Montreal area?

Because of the two Mathildas, the british player will win. A 13 pts (same as the weak Panzer III) and 6/5 superior frontal armour, the Mathilda is definitively a broken unit. Replace this two beasts with Stuart, Crusader II or even Valentine II tanks and it will be a different story.

Well I finally tried it... with new cards and rules
I played with the Italians
UK destroyed the Italian armour in 4 turns... except for 2 carro armato M13/40. In the same 4 turns, the Italians destroyed the trucks, the MGs 2 crusaders and disrupted a Matilda II. The 47/32 destroyed the armored car while being on over watch at long range
At turn 5, I had one objective, my opponent had the other one. Eventually (+- 2 turn) he arrived there and I had a last stand on my little hill, I stayed on the objective for 3 turn! Destroyed the 2 remaining crusader with close assault, both previously damaged by the 47/32 antitank gun.
In the end, I lost the hill
The 47/32 Antitank Gun proved to be one of my most successful unit since it didn't looked important i guess...

Sounds like you did better than I thought the Italians would do. That was a long wait to play that game. (April 2008 to Jan 2009)

well, if those builds are historical accurate or stuff like that I understand; otherwise the ITA have the Semovente tank destroyers and those will make a big difference in any game vs UK if deployed.
