1/96 Scale Avro Lancasters

Hi,   Very Happy

i picked these up on ebay recently.

I will post more pics as I progress.

Thanks for looking,

FF
Built out of the box, but with no "Glass" in yet.

Primed base tan and next to A20 Spit re-paint subject for scale.

Masked for black ventral surfaces and main fuselage.

Black is drying now, more pics in a bit.

Cheers,

This will be interesting. If you can, post step by step photos while you are painting them.

Sounds like a good idea...

The Lancasters I received were Mk I and these are their Markings

The Camo Scheme and markings I will use.

Note the day and night raid bomb colors difference

I just carefully removed masking to reveal black and tan, if you will pardon that term.

I was not too worried about missed areas, afterall, my spot paint will be Black and Black-gray. My main concern, while masking, is/was the hard straight line running the length of the fuselage. I mostly established that pretty well, except near the cockpits and tails, but easily fixed.

For anyone paying attention, who doesn't know that much about brush painting with thinned acrylics and dry-brushing with acrylics, both alcohol and water based paints, this process might be interesting for you to follow along with.

Most Angels 20 planes are so small that airbrushing is a waste of time, on the clean-up alone, IMO.

Anyone can pick up a brush and paint. So, if you have liked some of my repaints and would like to know how to get similar results, stay tuned.

Also, a quick note on brushes. In a word, "Quality".

Quality really does matter. So, go spend a little bit more on some red sable or some Kolinsky naturals and find some really good nylons as well, they have their uses and work well with enamels too.

Thanks for looking,

Teaser

I am taking pics as I progress with the Twin Lancasters project, but have many projects moving forward together and I just wanted to drop a sort of teaser here, to show that this is still happening and that this project promises to be sweet when complete.

I live in a cold, wet climate. in winter. and so after spray priming the bottoms black, I needed to speed up the drying process a little while maintaining a decent humidity level.

Here you can see I have used my 19Volt cordless as a counter weight to suspend the bombers over a radiant heater, set on low, to dry.

I cleaned up the lines a little better and did some general spot painting on the underbelly and fuselage using a watered down fine acrylic like Vallejo, GW, or in this case, Formula P3 Thamar Black. These paints have finer particles and smoother finishes, but are relatively expensive. If you want great paint that is much less expensive, buy artist tubes and do your own watering down and blending, etc.

Note the blue glove. I have learned to use these for my off hand while touching and spot painting the models. There is way less chance of an unwanted thumbprint on a key spot, or worse, a canopy!

Comparing with wingspan of my PBY's

Until Next Time,

Good Luck and Good Hunting!

Picked up some decals and salvaged some others.

Got some great Nose Art Gals. They are technically 1/144, but fit these Lanky's well...

More to come on this project as I get settled in to new place.

Hi,  Very Happy

I am pushing to get the new shop and store together. I don't even have a real place to spray right now. However, I will finish these very soon after store opens, so that we can have more interesting Bomber Missions, Dam Busting, Skip Bombing Ships, etc.

Thanks for looking, these are looking sweet and I will post more progress pics as well as the finished project pics ASAP!

Cheers,

Cool videos.  Actually watched the movie a week or two ago.  The physicist in me enjoys the storyline.

Did these ever get finished?  I'd love to see the pics.
