This was both the first dreadnought-type battleship built by Italy and probably the only 20th century capital ship named after a poet. She was also the first Italian capital ship with four propellers and the first capital ship ever designed with triple main-battery turrets, although the Austrian dreadnought Viribus Unitis was the first such ship actually completed.
She ended her list of firsts by being the first Italian dreadnought still in service to be stricken from the Navy List (July 1928), the only previous one being the Leonardo da Vinci, which was sunk in Aug 1916.[/code]
