Post subject: A variant way of using objectives.

|
We tried something different at the ole SETTS (South East Texas Tactics and Strategy) club tonight, and I must say, it did add a little twist to the game.
The Idea of this variant was..........
Churchill's plane has gone down in the Mediterranean, (GASP)
The pilot of the plane got off a brief message informing Alexandria of their aproxtimate position. Unfortunately, the excited pilot broadcast this message in the clear and the Italians now know that Churchill has ditched as well. The race for Churchill is on.
Three objectives were placed in the center row of the board as normal, however, two of the objectives were marked underneath the markers with an F (False Objective) and one was marked underneath with a C (Churchill). These markers were shuffled randomly (so no one knew which was which) before they were placed on the board.
The rules for capturing an objective were as normal except for the following.
False objectives were worth 0 points.
Churchill was worth 100 points.
When you captured an objective the marker then was assigned to a ship in the particular sector that captured the objective. Points were scored for the objective only when a ship carrying the objective exited off his side of the map.
When a ship carrying an objective was sunk, that particular objective was then placed on the map in the sector the ship was sunk in. That objective could then be claimed by another ship, friend or foe, when the criteria of claiming that objective was met once again. (ship in sector with objective and no enemy ship in local or adjacent sectors).
And for an added kick, the objectives moved as per Weeds weather rules one sector randomly at the end of the turn.
MTB's, Subs and Catalina's were disallowed to pick up Churchill.
When a player captures an objective only he and any other players on his side get to see whether the objective is real (Churchill) or not.
The game ends when a ship carrying Churchill exits from it's side of the board.
Points were awarded for sunk ships plus the bonus 100 pts for Churchill to the side that succesfully exited him.
As a side note, we had a 6 player game going with 500 point fleets (total) on each side, we also play on a 15 by 15 sector map, for those playing with smaller Fleets and smaller maps it would probably be appropriate for Churchill to be worth less points.
BTW we allowed Set III vessels in this particular battle which we set as taking place in 1941, and were able to to test 4 of them.
Belfast- Boy, in a world filled with smoke (Javelins and Luca Tarigos) Belfast is a Beast. Sharpshooter and Bad Weather Fighter excelled here.
Repulse- No negative SA. Really cool. Was able to use Evade Torpedoes when being lined up for a Range 1 shot by an Ambra, problem was though, the side affect of evading torpedoes is you don't get to move on the next turn with Repulse, which in turn means the Ambra got to bring the range to 0 and shoot again on the next turn. Also Repulse is somewhat light in the secondary department, and has difficulty in driving off the little ships such as DD's and MTB's.
Pegaso- Boy if the Brits had a sub in the game prior to 1943 this ship would be cool. As is, her SA's are pretty worthless before 1943 (If you are playing with historical limits) She has better AA then a Tarigo though.
Giussepi Garibaldi (Not sure of spelling here) She's a tough little ship with 5 armor, unusual for a light cruiser. Unfortunately her SA's never came into play, so I don't have much to add about her.
PS..... In our world Churchill was saved.
I hope anyone who tries this variant will find it as interesting as we did. _________________ Gaming for 36 Years.

Interesting. You could include this as a sub-plot to any number of other scenarios, with a bit of adjustment to the victory points. Hmm.
Thanks for sharing your idea! |

This is a very simple way to mix up the standard scenario! Excelent Job! I may have to steal this idea and use it in some different scenarios (with permision of course) _________________ -Greyh
