Hi there,

Torpedoes were often used to finish off crippled ships. WAS does not represent this. Instead, in WAS it is best to use torpedoes against full health ships as when you fire them against crippled ships you waste their damage potential. Instead, in WAS it is best to finish ships of with gunnery, which is totally unrealistic.

What about the following rule:

When you fire torpedoes at a crippled ship you hit on a 5 or 6 instead on a 6 only.

I like this one myself. It gives torpedoes a slight totally not overpowered buff, which is realistic.

Hell, I might even change it to hitting on a 4, 5 or 6 vs cripples.

Opinions please!

I like it.
Does that also include torpedoes form planes?

I never tryed to have a crippeld ship to live to the end of next phase.

So why not try to draw some fire from torpedoes and let them hit crippeled ships on 6, 5 and 4.

But then the torpedoes must come from another ship than the one there crippeled the ship in the first place. If not I think that torpedoes are going to be way to good.

Mabye should the ability only apply to subs.

Remember that a ship is not crippled until the phase after it received crippling damage (the Crippled counter is face-down when it is received).

So a ship couldn't cripple its target with guns then immediately use the "improved" torpedoes.

Still... hitting on a 5 or 6 is a MASSIVE improvement in torpedo efficiency.

Maybe only for local attacks?

yeah 5,6 for torp hits would be 2 Nasty.

Every fleet would contain god Knows How many Subs. Especially since they would hit on 5-6. you have a much better chance at scoring a hit even with all the penalties from Adjacent DD's and ASW aircraft.

You are not really wasting your attack...you know if you hit you are going to sink it as it would be crippled in the torp phase assuming it was crippled in a previous phase.  If you sink it with torps you deny it the opportunity to do something the next turn.  A crippled BB or heavy CA can still ruin your day if you are trying to claim an objective with a lesser ship.

I can see your point making torps hit on 5/6 (same sector only) as a crippled ship is likely moving slower.

I look at it as a choice.

1) It's crippled.  It's only hitting on 5's and 6's.  And it only has movement of 1.  If I can get out of its range and still press my attack, then I use my firepower elsewhere.

2)  If I can't get away from it, I'm going to focus on taking it out.

I think sometime we want to change too much and that can change the whole complextion of the game, we should only fix what is broken or it's not the same game!!  IMHO not a terribly great idea

I would tend to agree with Okie on this one.  Sometimes simpler is better.
