Just curious, I don't follow the blogs and we're supposed to be about 3 1/2 to 4 months from the new set.

WotC M2A0 said it is now September 1. Amazon.com still says August 25th. But that is close enough.

Edited to add. That means we should see the first Opening Salvo the week of July 20th.

If we don't get any WAS news soon, I think that the Lounge will overtake WAS General in number of posts Laughing.

yeah, without new stuff to discuss  there's been a noticable down turn in posts here.  I'm not concerned that interest in the game has waned or will wane without news, it just seems like keeping interest up would be in Wizard's best interests, so it's a bit confusing that we've heard nothing.

I think R.B. got himself in trouble by telling us too much about Set III last summer. It didn't leave him with enough new 'reveals' to stretch out through the year. I am willing to bet he doesn't do that again with Set IV.

Edited to add: It didn't help that Set III was delayed by 2.5 months either! We would be a couple of weeks into the Opening Salvos by now if the original June ship date had held.

there has been 1 set in the past 18 months and a 1 week delay makes you this upset?

As long as a new set comes out I am hapy, just started the game so I have plenty of units to collect.

Its not the delay that bugs me. It's that they chose not to move it forward.

I don't think I'll believe a firm date until we start seeing Opening Salvo's, and maybe not even then.

On a positive note, R.B. has confirmed there will be at least one, and maybe two, WaS tournaments at GenCon this year. So there is some support there.

I think the September 1 date will hold this time. It is only a one week delay from the earlier delay.  Wink

So maybe there will now be a one day additional delay! We are getting closer.

It really confuses me why you would have a product that sells out rapidly in every production run that occurs and not offer significant support for it.  I mean, basic business dictates that you support your products that do well, and dump your products that don't.

1. This product supports itself so well I think they feel safe spending their marketing money elsewhere.
2. As we all know there is not an infinite number of sets that can be made, so I think they are intentionally spacing it out with about one set per year (plus or plus). They seem to be getting excellent sales at that pace with multiple reprints of the sets.
3. R.B. has done okay with his 'leaks' and especially with the darkness and weather rules additions.
4. I think the Gale Force 9 maps and tokens got delayed by a couple of months over the original plan too. That left a bigger gap of 'no activity' as well.
5. They have the Forumini board giving them free marketing support!
6. Did I mention they are content to release a set about every 12-18 months because this is a 'captive' market?  Wink
7. Did I mention they have the Forumini board to keep up some momentum and hold the fans?  Cool

Sometimes, I wonder just how popular this forum is.

My brother and my two nephews, who I used to play all the time, had never heard of this forum until I recently told 'em about it.  I also just found out that Scott, the guy over at Gaming Advantage, had never heard of this forum before, either.  These are people who've known about the game almost since it started, and that got me thinking.

Are new members on this forum new players, or long-time players who just never knew about this forum?  I'd sure like to see some sales figures.  Maybe there's not as much demand as we all think.  Is the WaS fan base growing?

The game sells far better than this forum would indicate. Our gaming group has 12 'regular' players. Out of that 3 participate in this forum and one mostly lurks. The other eight are avid player/gamers, but are not into the history and other details. That is why I constantly remind you guys that this board is heavily biased towards 'historicals', but not the mainstream 'bread and butter' gamers that are buying the game.

Set II is out of stock and a reprint is coming in July. Set I has been printed at least three times that I know of. That makes this a very popular game. There is also a large market of people who collect the miniatures either for other naval wargames or just to collect them.
