I can't make it, and game registration starts on March 17. Let's get discussions going and get something registered.

Note:
Registered games would be best if "walk-up" friendly, drawing people to our tables. Need a game master, who now does not pay for the convention as a thanks from the convention masters!

Non-registered games don't have to be "walk-up" friendly. These are the kinds we played at Cold Wars, and can continue to do as well.

Hey im working on a scenario right now (my playtest) and was hoping that I could get it on the list as a preregister (anything to make the trip cheeper on me) I intend on buying a the map im using, a custom battery and markers for the game.  I hope to make it like your final countdown (as in my custom cards are used in it) and also find someone that can make my cards on fancy paper and nice and clean too.

would this be possible to get in so I could be a game master?  it says you need to do 16 hours to be a game master and I think each game is about 1 hour long and there is 2 players each game so I could do 8 games throughout the 3 days?

so while we were at the cold wars I saw some people that had some pretty good video cameras and video about ~5 mins  of our last game there.  My question is do they have a website that would have the video of the entire convention somewhere?

Ok, you have found the game-master info, excellent. I would not say "2 players 1 hour" as that means 1 hour to set up, 1 hour to play and 1 hour to tear down. 3 hours of table for one hour to play.

So, also, because you'll have some non-W@S players, you'll need some explaining time. Now, if you are nice to other forum members going there <ahem, anyone listening!> they may join you as "assistant game-masters". It can help.

I would recommend saying 4 players 3 hours each time. That's 12 player-hours each time. Also, if you make it a little larger, you may be able to take 6 players.

Realize that you will save yourself the convention registration fee, which is not bad. I do wish I could be there ... but I'll have to wait until next time.

Any questions, ask here, and we have several that can respond!

The place to look to see if anything went up that you may be interested in watching is at the convention website:

www.coldwars.org!

ok I just registered as a member and now im waiting for them to process it (I guess I have to wait for a little while?)

anyways, as lcdrswizzle stated I should expand the game a bit so that I can get more people in and reach that magical 16 people hours faster/easier.  so im looking at how to get a bigger map now.  does anyone have an idea on how/where I can find a map (ill draw lines if needs be) that is cheap and about 5'x10' ish.  what I was planning on doing was a normal size map using the started set maps but that's too small.

and on this map what would be easier for new/walkup player to play on? hexes or squares?

Ticat1 is helping me a lot on my playtesting so I thank him a lot for the help.  if anyone has ideas on how to make my convoy scenario better please provide inputs to me!

As for the map ... one option is to go to a thrift shop (USO, local children's hospital, DAV, etc.) and find blue bed sheets. Then you'll draw the squares on them (squares are MUCH easier to draw than hexes are, trust me!).

If you buy cloth, it's much more expensive, so bed sheets are the cheap way to get cloth.

Glad to be aboard.  At this time i'm not sure about Historicon i will make every effort to attend. Fall-in is a definite. I would gladly Game Master a Scenario of Tournament at Fall-in,lots of time to kick it around,i have some ideas, boy is that scary.
Working on original WAS maps mounted on 20x30 light weight sheets so they can be Geometrically formed for endless combos.

My game scenario has just been approved by Historicon.

-btw? is there any perks that come with being a game master?  (besides free admission, that saves me $25) I've looked on the HMGS website and don't seem to see anything about it.

Well, you are registered for the WHOLE WEEKEND, and when you check in at the Pre-registration desk you will have a packet waiting for you. That's about the benefit, except that your name tag will identify you as a game master as well.

You will still want to make sure you do something about having a room to stay in, maybe you can get one with someone else who is going.

Overview of scenario:

Map:      15x25-30 sectors (depends on if I can get this to 30 (preferred)
Nations:  USN vs KM
Players:  4-6 Players
Points:   choose between pre designated fleets cards from my convoy cards (totaling 150 each fleet)
Obj:       USN is attempting to reach England to stage for the invasion of Normandy. Year is late 1942 therefore this is the US’s attempt to end the war early.  KM objective is sink as many ships/transports as possible.
Win Con:  US gets at least have its transports to England while delivering substantial losses to KM.  KM wins if they sink more than half of the transports and also delivers substantial losses to USN.  There is no clear winner besides the transports thus the players can decide if they won or lost.  (I feel it gets them more involved)
Time:     Saturday at 1300-1600 for a total of ~1 hour of playing.
Models:  I will provide the ships unless player has their own (but mine will be labeled/mounted with their names and designated fleets.

Any further questions I will explain and also I’ve been play testing this with Ticat1 and my brother at my home so it’s still being fine-tuned and is subject to further modifications.

so going off of what Swizzle did for his final countdown, I decided to make cards for my scenario.  they are custom (but to a point) I took out SAs that don't pertain to the scenario and gave them something else or nothing at all.  my goal is to get them all done (as in the ships that were in 1942).  is there a way I could upload them on to here as a link so everyone can see my progress?

I will print the cards once done and have them sleeved and encased in hard sleeves.

eventually I hope to make a deck like swo_daddy.  but only want them to be used only in the atlantic theater.

im putting years on the cards (so that you can only use them from "x" year to "y" year).  Yes this makes Germany way weaker in later games, but we all play games with Germany in 1939-1942 anyways.

As an update ... "Guns of August" is happening in Williamsburg, VA August 22-24. Some of us will be there ... any interest in a battle or 2?

Their website is: http://wbconventions.org/
