6x Koln 66
3x Zeke 18
Shoho 9
Kondor 6
99 points
I suppose but it could work. yes... I know if you use historical limitations then there are not that many Koln to use. But if you are not... maybe it works? Grab 2 objectives at least and try to get enough points to win. _________________ formerly Polish_Horsy on A&A minis website

Hmmm not a very good build I'm afraid.
As has been explained before, Kölns actually aren't good at grabbing objectives - only at threatening to do so (and thus force the opponent to react accordingly).
By the time they get there (turn 2), the enemy will already have some ships adjacent to the objectives to contest them. Kölns aren't very good at sinking stuff, so unless the opponent sends a lone destroyer to stop them, chances are they won't be able to capture.
A smart opponent will let you take one objective, and concentrate his firepower to overwhelm your other task forces. You'll get 50 'free' points, but he'll crush you before you can score anymore.
Even a mindless BB+filler build, played more or less mindlessly, will trump this: the BB parks on one objective - even if you get the other two and sink all the filler (unlikely!), you still can't get to 150 points without sinking the BB (provided it's 51 points or more, so not Tennessee, Veneto or one of the battlecruisers). And that's just not going to happen with a handful of Kölns.
I've given a lot of thought to a Köln blitzkrieg build, but I just can't get it to work. U-boats aren't too bad - they can help secure the objectives by crippling or sinking weak stuff, but you're at the fickle mercy of torpedo rolls. The best pairing I could come up with was Graf Spee - but in fact Graf Spee did better without the Kölns anyway.
One general note, btw: carriers and fighters probably aren't worth it in a blitz build - they pay off in the long term, but in this case you want the game to be over quickly, so you just need heavy hitters. _________________

yeah... if the opponent has a heavy BB AND a way to contest another objective you probably lose. _________________ formerly Polish_Horsy on A&A minis website

He doesn't need to contest anything else... you win at 150 points, right? But if the opponent has, say, a Washington (56 points), even if you capture two objectives worth 50 points each, the maximum you can get without sinking the BB is 144 - so you just can't trigger and endgame!
He, on the other hand, can score 50 from one objective, and take his time to wipe out your surface fleet (not your airpower) for another 75 points. Add a 50 point bonus because of no surface ships left, and hey presto.
Like I said, I've tried to make a 100-point Köln build work... but it just doesn't _________________

Yeah, I like Koln's with submarines behind them, makes the enemy BB charge an objective right onto your U-boats. This really only works at higher point totals when you have something to absorb some damage though. _________________
