There was a screenshot thread, but search didn't turn up a general discussion thread so with some new eye candy out figured i'd open with that and end with a question.
Spoiler:

I hid these to keep the words screen manageable

So what side of the fence are you guys on?  They seem pretty intent on not doing submarines.  Personally I like it as the sub's role wasn't very teamplay friendly.  Not that they didn't help their team, just they were the before or an opportunistic element of a larger strategy than a game focused surface engagement would entail.

And it's pretty.

Subs give a reason to need destroyers beyond speed and torp spammage. Of course this assumes that Wargaming.net cares about any kind of ship-type balance in its battles - if World of Tanks is anything to go by, it'll just be everyone racing to get the biggest BB/CV.

Subs are to battleships as artillery are to heavy tanks.  DD's are like light tanks in the same way, kill the arty.

Anyway they do this game its just going to be an arcade and it will be only loosely based on history. Everything will enivitablly have to fit into tiers for gameplay and thats where history will get skewed in favor of balancing.

I seems a long way from any Beta tests but I will be watching and likely give it a try when its available.

Since there are no subs I think its more like...

Battleships: Heavys
Cruisers: Mediums
DDs: Lights
CVs: Artillery

Subs, if they existed, would likely be more like TDs, really 'squishy' TDs.

Thing is, can't DD's be something more than just ASW?  What's wrong with a DD that is outfitted to take out opposing DD's, loaded with AA to help screen carrier attack squads, or rigged with torpedos to provide an escort for an assault.  Low tier games will be mainly destroyer filled probably with the odd too big to call a DD cruiser.  I think it could be a pretty fun game.  Ultimately that is all I want, even if it comes out a little too arcadey for some of you hardline historians.

I really hope this comes out soon and they probably are planning on adding subs just not when it releases.

It'll be too much like World of Tanks for me, with little to do with history as far as what opponents you get to face. <Yawn> I'm not very excited about it.

I'm interested in trying this game out, however between WoT, War Thunder and Armored Warfare ive only got about 40 gigs of freespace left on this old computer and its likely not enough for the WoWS client  Crying or Very sad

I'm real curious about the CVs. Do they only have planes as armament or are their weirdos like Akagi and Saratoga that have actual guns as well?

Edit:
Ooof. I just logged into the WoWS forum. All this time on here and I had forgotten how crazy ignorant some people are about WW2 ships and naval warfare.

The CBT is open for applicants, I got in myself yesterday. It's great fun, the only thing slightly annoying is the same death animation no matter what, which gets really odd when you see someone sink while grounded... XD
But that's to be expected, this early.
I'm still in the starter ships, for now.

The ship blows up and sinks if grounded? HAHA.

One question. Can you name your warship? e.g. unlock the Cleveland Class cruiser can you name it one of the 27 built?

Yup, I've seen it with my own eyes.
The poor guy wasn't paying attention to what he was doing, grounded himself, tried to pull out, pulled back in from panic, and the entire time he was being pounded by a hail of 5", 5.5", and 6" shells(tier 1 game), until he blew apart, and the ship sunk through solid ground... oh well.

And no, you can't name warships. Maybe you will eb able to int eh future, but if at all, I'm guessing only you'll be able to see it, since having 2 ships of the same name, but different class in the game could get, well, problematic, to say the least.

Gamers can't be trusted to name their own ships. Gamertags are bad enough, I don't want to see 100 iterations of HMS NOOBSLAYER or whatever.

I got in too! I'm having a blast with this game, and I'm still just on the level 1 starter ships! I have to say, I am enjoying the starter ships in this game a lot more than I ever enjoyed the starter tanks in WoT (those aren't so much proper tanks as lawnmowers with bad attitudes!).

I just joined last weekend as part of the CBT launch.
It seems like a mash between Navyfield and Battlestations Pacific/Midway games.
Very pretty. Doesn't seem to be a lot of skill with firing the main guns besides knowing where to lead your shot.
I like the delay with the turrets aligning to your firing position and the "weight" behind the ships turning.

Not sure if I'm sold on this being my Freemium game at the moment. Mechwarrior Online looks to still have that pride of place for a while.
