Been looking to get a start in either of these two games, but because my wallet has feelings, I can only choose one. What are your experiences with them? And tips? Recommendations? Thanks!

I have no experience with either of them, but I love the old world sailing battles, and WWI airplanes.  If I were to get into one of these...it would probably be the WWI airplanes. If money was an issue, and normally is...the airplanes maybe at a discount these days.  I believe the Sails of Glory has been out for a short amount of time. Plus, I could also use some of the WWI planes for another WWI board game coming out.  good luck with this!

Play both before you buy if you can.  I have only played Sails of Glory about 10 games now.  It is pretty good but the system of tracking orders and such is very very fiddly.  I do like how the sailing mechanic works.

I have not played SOG, but I've played WOG for WW1 and WW2 quite a bit.  I think WOG is a great game, and can recommend it.

Played a lot of WoG and a few SoG.

WoG WW1 is a great dogfighting game and I recommend it.
WoG WW2 is an intense aerial combat game and I recommend it.
SoG is a cool Age of Sail game although the command and damage recording is fiddly but still worth playing.

I would highly recommend all of these games and can't advise which one you should buy. If I had to choose just one I couldn't which is why I brought all of them Sad

I'm a fan of Sails of Glory myself.  A very pretty game with pretty solid mechanics.  There are some good player-created resources out there that keep the token-based command system under control - the game is diceless, but it is token heavy.

I really hope we eventually see a third wave of ships.  The game is great, but there has been very little news about any new ships.

I think coolstuffinc.com has a WoG starter pack for like 50 USD that has the rules pack and 4 planes... I almost can't go wrong with it! But then a found a used SoG starter for 60... I'm torn.. Why did I have to grow up to be a gamer?!

The west coast chapter in California is hosting "Wings of Glory" games at the Guild House game store in Bellflower Ca. When on the 4 Sunday of each month. If anyone is interested. As far as Wings of Glory goes. The game is great and not that costly as other miniatures games. And fairly easy to play. The average cost of the pieces is $15.00 a plane.
