He's the pilot that's pretty much always mentioned when you read about Soviet taran (ramming) tactics, since he survived a ridiculous 4 successful rams. He's mentioned as being in the 184 IAP, which I know produced an I-16 ace. Is it safe to assume this was his type early in the war when ramming was most likely to occur?

That is very interesting, do you have a link to an article about that?

I went looking and actually managed to answer my own question. My Google-fu failed while inititally searching for Lieutenant Boris Kobzan, but hit pay dirt while looking for Boris Kobzan.

Anyway, he's mentioned in the Wikipedia article on Aerial Ramming and in the Opsrey Book on Soviet Aces of WW2.

Link the first:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerial_ramming

Link the second:
http://books.google.com/books?id=...=lt.%20boris%20kobzan&f=false

But here I found something that mentions his aircraft, the I-16.

http://books.google.com/books?id=...&q=boris%20kobzan&f=false

Edit: The last article also mentions the great turn rate and firepower of the I-16, neither of which are well represented in this game... to the custom cards!

From what i read, the I-16 was good for ramming.
Maybe that is why it is armour 3.

I think it has armor 3 because of the pilot armor and radial engine.
