That's right - TEN sets. With R.B. blogging about the Spanish Navy that clued me in that he is thinking about how he can fill out several more sets at least. So now I know I can go with minor and neutral nations to fill those difficult rare slots. Here we go. And I know there will STILL be units I missed that someone wants more than life itself.

Thanks. It is just too addictive! I love looking through the ship war records and deciding the ship and reprint sisters that could be represented with interesting SA's.
If all of these were actually made it would have to be one of the most coveted WWII collections ever made.

Spoke to RB very recently, he sounded quite receptive to our version of the Surcouf once I explained it to him, don't count it out just yet!
Furthermore, Lorraine would be a rather different sculpt from Bretagne, as Lorraine is missing a turret.

It won't surprise me at all to see it. One great thing about this game is R.B. reads the boards and he knows how much interest there is in that unit. Just feel free to decide the uncommon you would swap it with and then click the heels of your shoes together three times. It will be so!
There were just a lot of other uncommons I would rather have than a submarine that did not work.

It is very hard to decide what R.B. would reprint and what he would do as a unique sculpt. The Repulse/Renown really threw me off. I didn't think he would go that far on a large sculpt. Yet he makes unique sculpts for the Shigure and Saumarez.
Very inconsistent. I suspect it has to do with his new sculpt budget and not knowing how many sets he will get to make. Although he could have just called it Renown this time and hedged his bets.
So who knows?

I checked blueprints.com and I see what you mean. The center turret on Lorraine was replaced with AA. No telling what R.B would do with that.

Not RB so much as the outsourced shops in China--he tells me that almost the entire mini design/manufacture process is done by Hasbro Far East.

Honestly, I think that our version of the Surcouf is a bit overcosted, so I hope it doesn't translate over into the official version (at least not 100%)
Btw, I know that my father (and I) would be pretty happy if Ciao Duilio was in the next set. He was in a spaghetti eating contest on board her when he was 2 or 3, one of his earliest memories, and his uncle served aboard in charge of some AA batteries (I'm not sure how many batteries Chief's were responsible for in the RM) I'm also excited for anything that diversifies the RM and gives it more rares. |

Wow! That is a really cool memory. I remember visiting my dad's ships when I was a kid too. They look so big and powerful. And the sounds and smells of a busy ship are so unique. You never forget it.

Oh good grief! I had it as a rare and couldn't remember why. So I changed it back to an uncommon and spent a good half hour re-balancing all the sets because of that.
The problem is the way Conway's describes it. They have a table of stats that implies a 2083 ton displacement and 3 x 6 in guns. You have to read the text to know the table just describes the refit specs. It is the only place in the entire book that does that as far as I know.
Rats.
I will fix it sometime.
That means Surcouf can return to the list!
