Question about tournaments:

I was thinking it would be a unique challenge to have a endurance game type of setup. Each player spends 'X' points on a team, something like 500 pts. Then in the games to follow they can use any of the units that are part of their team. Not all the units can be used in a given match but a limited number of them or point limit. The rest of the team sits back on the "bench". Any units that survive the game can be used in a following match.

Sounds like an idea I was thinking we were going to do during a recent Caen mini campaign game, it was not to be. Sounds like it could be a round robin style all the way to the finals.

I would be interested.  Work has been a bear lately, but hopefully it will return to normal soon.

I'm sorry, for I am about to hijack this thread.  I want to open up discussion for a possible AAM Clubhouse tournament, and this thread is already in that vicinity.

The problem with such an endeavor is that the Clubs are relatively unbalanced.  You have some clubs with only 1 or 2 members, and others with close to a dozen.  And, not all of those members of the clubs are active in online gaming.

Further more, a club such as Club Olive presents a unique variable in that it does not represent one specific nation.  Opponents of the club can face a wide possibility of nations.  To be in a tournament, there would need to be some form of standardization for Club Olive's possible selection pool.

And, only to complicate things further, a club like Club France is competitive in one year range, but not in another.  This too must be taken into consideration.

So, there are a few problems that must be solved before putting together a good tournament, and unfortunately, I am drawing a blank as to how to solve these problems.

Does anyone have some ideas?  Anything I believe will help at this point.

Ok so a possible idea.

I like the idea of each club getting x number of points to enter the tournament.  Then we could play a double elimination round robbin tournament.  Before each match the club members will select who will play and what units from the pool they take.  So the challenge will be two fold.  on one hand you need to save up points for later battles but enough to keep winning.  What are your guys thoughts?

Here's a suggestion - assign each nation/club a pool of points to buy a army roster, all of that nation/club's armies are drawn from that pool(quantities are irrelevant)

Victory adds 3 point to buy new units for the army roster
Loss adds 1

You could add a year restriction - round 1: units up to 41, round 2: 1942, round 3: 1943 etc.

For France we could allow historical TOE from Free French units.  They used a lot of US and UK gear in mid to late war.

So how much interest is there in a Club house tournament.  How many of us are willing to play in it?  This might help figure out how feasible a tournament is at this time and how it should be formatted.

I want to re-kindle this discussion

I feel that a 16 "team" single-elimination playoff bracket would be the easiest, quickest, and most fun way to do this.

Here are suggestions for Format, Rules, and Logistical issues.  These are all up for discussion.

Format
- All 7 Clubs participate
- Each Club gets at least 2 "teams" with the two largest clubs getting 3 teams
- The bracket is set-up so that it is unlikely teams from the same club will face each other
- The goal is win the tournament for your club by being the last man standing.
- In case members from the same club are matched up, they play each other.  If in the final, their club wins, and they can play the match if they wish.
- In case two teams from one of our clubs with only 1 member are matched up, one teams advances, and the other is eliminated automatically.

Rules
- These are to be determined, but I would suggest basic matches.  100pts, Advanced Rules, Revised Cards, Seize the Objective.
- Germany, US, USSR, and France can only play with units from their nationality.
- UK and Commonwealth can only play with units from UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and South Africa.
- Olive RAAFFF must choose 1 nation only to play as throughout the tournament.

Logistics
- I will keep and up-to-date bracket picture with the current results posted in this forum.
- I can help make and keep up with match maps, but I will need help from fellow gamers if possible.  It's a lot of work.
- The Players who will represent their clubs is to be determined by the amongst the club members.
- Matches are to last no longer than 2 weeks.
- Inactivity on the part of a player for 1 week or longer will result in a forfeit by they player.

Nice Avatar Carrion, I was asked by SrgPoofy to make a banner for this Tourney did you guys want me to take a shot at it?

What are you going to call it?
Where can I find all Clubs avatars?

The tourney sounds great guys...

Just so you know I have been playing wargames for 15 years, Land Based for 11 years and Wet for 4. Although I have never played AAM I know what you guys are all about and I'll do a good job for you. Of course if one of you blokes wants to handle it go right ahead.

Cheers for now. Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

Dan

Hey Dan.  Thanks for offering your help.  It is much appreciated.

We don't so much need a tournament banner but instead a AAM Clubhouse banner.  We need something that we can display to promote the AAM Clubhouse as a whole.  This could be used along with the tournament, but it is not specified for the tournament.

Also, Club avatars are a work in progress.  Some clubs have them, some don't.  I believe Wehrmacht, British & Commonwealth, G.I., and Olive have them, but the rest do not.  You should be able to find them by looking in the Club's sticky.

Ahhh gotcha! No problemo, I think I have just the thing, maybe if you can rally the troops to make an avatar they can be a promotion in themselves, displayed around the AAM Forum like us navy boys do and WaS.

You would be surprised how many members we pick up just because they want to do some flag waving, and like the look of our avatars. Secondary to this, most members just like the idea of being part of something along with other blokes of similar interest.

I would be truly honoured to make a banner for you guys, but it would look better if I could display each clubs avatar somewhere within it.

*Online salute, palm out of course*

Cheers guys Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

Dan

just like I posted on the bracket a few posts up on this page, Each club gets at least 2 slots (7 clubs x2 slots = 14). But, the two largest clubs, USSR and G.I., both get an extra slot each since they have the most members (2 more slots + 14 already = 16).

So, we do a single elimination tournament with 16 players.  The Clubs with only 1 member each (France and RAAFFF) have their member play both slots.

The final player standing wins the tournament for their club.  Sound cool?
