Another flight path game is hitting the shelves next week, FFG's Star Ware Armada. This is the capital ship version of X-Wing, and looks even better.

Core set comes with a Victory class Star Destroyer, 6 Tie Fighter groups (a small stand about the size of an WAS air group), Rebel's get a Nebulon B Frigate, a Corvette, and 4 X-Wings.

Other ships coming out are a Rebel Assault Figate Mk II, a Gladiator SD, fighter packs (2ea X, Y, A,B, or Fighter, Interceptor, bomber, Advanced) Imperial Star Destroyer, an Imperial Raider, Mon Calamari cruiser and Frigate, and a Scum and Villainy pack, which has 8 bounty hunter stands, one of which is a very cute nickel sized Millenium Falcon.

Still undecided about this game.

How many star wars games can you own? Cool

I did have X Wing, but got out of that fairly early on. So, this is the first current SW game.

I do also own Start Trek Attack wings as well as the Dragon one, but those aren't SW.

Prior to seeing Wave 2, I was undecided. But the Geek has pics of the Mon Cal ships, the ISDs, and others, and that was enough for me to jump in. I don't think it will have so many ships as to break the bank, and ever since the abortive WotC 'Starship Battles' I've want a good capital ship game.

Picked up my copy today.

Seems very good with features from other space games I've played. The capital ships are handled like the dragons in Mage Knight i.e. a separate dial for each arc. Fighters have a damage dial similar to hero clixs with out the SA's.

Lots of overlapping mechanics from X-Wing plus some more.

I like the command system and how you can stack and queue command actions on the capital ships.

The movement system is better than X-Wing, which IMO was the biggest weakness of X-Wing.

Some of the features and mechanics made me suspect my house has been bugged.

Love it so far. Only the core set is out at the moment, but it feels a lot less limited than the X-Wing core set did at the time.

The game itself feels very much like it should - big, lumbering leviathans duking it out while the little squadrons zip around. Corvettes need to dance around the edges of enemy firing arcs, while Star Destroyers are more concerned with managing their shield distribution and efficiently deploying TIE fighter screens to defend themselves from attacking X-Wings, even if they have little hope of winning dogfights...

Aside from the cost, the main downsides are the long game time (tournament games have a 2.5h limit!) and the fiddliness of some of the components. But, overall, I find it's a big step up from X-Wing.

Just picked up my copy of this.
I didn't pay the exorbitant Australian RRP of $170+ for it... That pricing is ridiculous.
From Book Depository, it cost me A$95, a more palatable price.
I might get a game or two done in the next week or so. Grander scale miniature games have always appealed to me more than small "skirmish" scale games.
I hope that Armada scratches this itch Smile

I have heard That x Wing players find it kind of slow going.

The game looks fab though.

Has anyone picked up any of the Wave 1 releases?  I see they're available at Miniature Market.  If you have, any thoughts?

I'm on vacation right now, but I hear my Wave 1 pre-order is waiting for me at home:

1 VSD
2 Gladiator SDs
1 Nebulon-B
1 CR90
1 Rebel squadron pack
3 Imperial squadron packs

...plus a shapeways Interdictor!

I feel a great disturbance in my wallet...  Laughing

My Wave 1 just arrived, 1 of each except 2 of each fighter pack. I plan to work these into games this weekend.

I've played 4 games thus far, but I can see how X-Wing player think its slow. There is much more thinking required, as you need to plan ahead for everything. Maneuver is so key in this game, and pre-plotting is critical. X-Wing is very reactive.

I however, much prefer it to X-Wing as it certainly does feel like a capital ship game. Zippy fighters and lumbering behemoths.

Would someone be able to post a pic of the x-wings and tie fighters with some planes from W@S please?

I'd like to see how big they are before I buy into the game Smile

Thanks in advance!
