So, I'm new around here, and I've got a moderate-sized WAS collection, and really want to get into painting. There's already some of great tutorials on this forum, but I haven't seen anyone post too much on repainted aircraft. So if you have some that you'd like to share, please do! I'm particularly interested in repainting my D3A Val squadrons, as I'm very disappointed in the stock model.

I suggest you look in the Naval Exhibition Hall sub-forum. That is where we display our "portfolio" of painted miniatures. Shinnentai's work is particularly awesome!

I definitely defer to Shin, but I thank you very much for the compliment.

My minis can be seen here. Scroll down for aircraft.

Thanks for the namecheck, Weeds!

I think that the key to painting aircraft is in the cockpits and the roundels. I see from another thread that people have already mentioned Dom's Decals, so I'll just post up a little image I made years ago showing how I do the cockpits :

I'll quite often update W@S planes that I originally painted years ago - just the addition of decals and the two-tone cockpits really makes a difference. Also, a lot of practice never hurts Wink :

Cool stuff, man. I have to ask - why are your Barracudas painted like U.S. planes?

You mean the roundels? They're actually UK - if you Google image search 'faa barracuda' you'll see them - very similar to US ones just with a white circle instead of a star.

Apparently they had the red circles removed - too similar to Japanese meatballs!
