Post subject: New Field of Fire set up- Time for a poll
|
|
|
Maybe the best time to start this now that lothar came back from the dead.
But it does feel nice to make a poll again.
Here is a diagram of the new proposed field of fire arcs
Yes or no?
Green = Broadside
purpleish = bow
orange = stern

I haven't voted yet because of the aesthetic differences between a hex-grid and the staggered square brick pattern that most players use. Can you show the same thing but use the staggered brick pattern instead, I know it is the same thing but in practice I think most people use squares instead of hexes and this will avoid confusion. Just my opinion. _________________ Gaming for 36 Years.

It probably would look something like:

Thats what I mean't Hey-yu. Could you show the arcs also if the ship was facing NE as opposes to North, I am worried that the arc, when facing NE Or any other angle thats not facing North or South could confuse people. Basically I am not opposed to widening the Bow or the Stern FOF, I originally went with the row the ship was facing constituting the Bow and Stern FOF for simplicity's sake.
PS When I say North I am talking about the top of the map. _________________ Gaming for 36 Years.

Are you stating there are 6 facings (N, NW, NE, S, SW, SE)? If that is the case then it seems you are better off playing the Dreadnaught Rising on a hex map instead of the WAS map. Just my cents. _________________

The pattern is the same , stacked bricks or hexes, both have 6 facings, A lot of people play with WaS square sectors and if we are to increase the arcs of the bow and the stern FoF's I would like to see the arcs shown with the square sector grid, including facings not straight to the top or the bottom of the map (N or S) but for example, a ship facing NE as opposed to a ship facing N, If you could possibly do that. I am pretty computer illiterate and know not how to make the pretty graphics come out of the magic box. _________________ Gaming for 36 Years.

Jesse_James, got the original map from the online games at:
http://aaminis.myfastforum.org/ftopic7697-0.php
Red Dots are the Front/Rear Firing Arcs. Everything else broadside. The basis of the arc firing is the straight vertical line of the facing and the diagonal one of the first diagonal front/rear firing hex.
NE or SW facing
NW or SE facing

Yes, that is what I mean, but it is not quite right, for example, in the NW facing example, the new Bow FoF would also include sectors D!, D2, E1, E2, E3, E4 , F1, F2, F3 and G1 I believe. The pattern should make a 120 degree arc. ( I think thats 120 degrees ). Same as a hex pattern, it just looks a little funky on the square brick pattern. BTW thank you Hey_Yu for your help. _________________ Gaming for 36 Years.
