Post subject: McKinley's Bulldog, USS Oregon BB-3 FINISHED

To continue my turn of the century theme lately I decided to model the USS Oregon. To participate in the battle of Santiago de Cuba she sailed a record setting 14,000 miles in 66 days, not even stopping for a coal fire in one of her bunkers! Later she participated in the pacific fleet durring WWI and was a Museum ship until 1942 when her upper works were scrapped and her hulk was used as an ammunition barge. The original intention for the Gov. of Oregon to give her back to the navy was for convoy escort. So this unit could be used as a fantasy unit in WaS. She was eventually scrapped in Japan, 1956.
Displacement: 10,288 tons/9,333 tonnes (standard), 11,688 tons/10,603 tonnes (full load)
Length: 348 ft (106 m) (waterline), 351 ft (107 m) (overall)
Beam: 69 ft (21 m)
Draft: 24 ft (7.3 m) (mean), 27 ft (8.2 m) (max)
Speed: 16 kn (30 km/h; 18 mph)
Armament:
4 × 13 in (330 mm)/35 cal guns
8 × 8 in (200 mm)/35 cal guns
4 × 6 in (150 mm)/40 cal guns
20 × 6-pounders (57 mm (2.2 in))
6 × 1-pounders (37 mm (1.5 in))
6 × 18 in (460 mm) torpedo tubes
Armor: Belt: 18 inches (460 mm)
Turret: 15 inches (380 mm)
Tower: 10 inches (250 mm)
Deck: 3 inches (76 mm)

These are the plans I'm going by, and when sized to scale, 1/8" tubing is a bit large but the closest I have.

Here is an update. I added some details and decided to compare her to another Span-Am War veteran, the USS Olympia. Please note the similar dimensions but Oregon was nearly twice Olympia's displacement.
This next pictures shows the developement of American naval power over 45yrs. In 1898 the Oregon was one of the most powerful warships afloat. Compare her to the TX, AZ, and MO! Also the Olympia pales in comparison to even the mostest Marblehead(Omaha class CL), let alone Baltimore.

There is something elegantand classy about these old ships. They were not just cold slabs of steel. I dunno, I really have become enamored with them. Next is Kearsarge, another WWII survivor...as a lifting barge.

Fixed Armament - This unit makes a ?/?/?/- attack agaisnt the target of it's main gunnery attack each turn.
Kersage was a great looking piece.

Very cool Drittal!! I watched the video on the Texas..... WOW!!! If I had the money and you were willing I would get you to make me one!!!
