I think that something along the lines of the W@S league would be good, 3pts for a win, 1pts for a draw and nothing for loseing, then divide the points by matches played to get an average total.
I think this is fairest as some clubs will have more players than others.
At somepoint in the future i think an individual competion would be good, run on a knock-out basis to find an individual champion champion but i will look into that when the league is up and running Very Happy

Just to help you out Pilgrimtone in the W@S right now we are using 3- win 1- lose.  Smile

I think you should do 2PT for a Win and 1PT for a Draw.  Don't think you should reward points for losing a game.

Not sure of the best way.  I think average total has it's flaws as well because of the amount of games folks play.  Some clubs may play 5 or so decent games giving them a good average.

It's also a catch-22 for larger clubs because it doesn't reward those clubs for attracting members.  On the flip side it isn't fair to the smaller clubs because of the lack of membership.

How about a playoff system to determine the champion club?  Have the two top clubs with the best average (club played at least 20 games in a year) and top two clubs with the most points face each other at the end of the year (end of September - gives 3 months to play).  The seeding will be the #1 club with most total points vs #2 club with best average on one side.  On the other side it would be the #1 club with the best average vs #2 club with most total points.  Also, a club can't have more than one slot filled.  So, if one club has best total and average then it fills in the most total points slot.  And another club would take it's best average spot.

Then each of the four clubs will select three of their players to represent them.  Each round there will be a best of 3 series.  Where each game is played by a different player.  It's probably preferable to play the 3 games at the same time to expedite them.

I think this gives the best representation.  Since larger clubs can have a decent size memberships which can give them a lower average with alot of games and different skill levels.  Also, this allows smaller clubs with a good group to play if they have a good playing average.

Just wondering, how would you have a draw?  If neither player controls the objective by the end of turn 7, don't you go to turn 10.  And if their still is no definitive winner, don't you decide the victor based on who destroyed more points of the enemy?  Unless of course, you guys just want to leave it at 7 turns total for the game just to make things speed up a bit.

Depends on the rules you're playing with.  With the Advance Rules, if the objective is not controlled by end of turn 7 then you play another turn.  By the end of the other turn.  If the objective is still not controlled then you play another turn.  This continues until someone controls the objective at the end of a turn or until the end of turn 10.  At the end of turn 10 if no one controls the objective then the victor is then determined by points.   How many units you have alive at the end determines the winner.  Can double check in the Advance Rules p7.

Playing up to Turn 7 for online play sounds like a good idea.  Also, to speed up games in the Assault Phase.  You generally roll the cover die for your opponent when needed.  This probably should be deemed acceptable too.

I believe that Americans are not fond of "draws" but there have been times when both myself and my opponent have decided on a draw, I have no problem with people calling a "truce" in a game and sharing the points.
Top priority in this club lark is to enjoy ourselves  so with that in mind i would like to try to keep things as simple as possible.
The reason we are playing for our respective clubs is favouritism towards that nationality or fleet so the number of members is of no real importance this is why the averaging of points is, i think, the fairest way to run the league and if winning is more important to someone than club affiliation then that person can always "jump ship" and play for another club.
Just my thoughts Very Happy

Averaging has it's draw backs depending on the number of games played by the club.  The numbers can be inflated and this can be a disadvantage for larger clubs (More games and different skill levels).  If it's just for fun and pride of the club than there is no reason to rank the clubs compared to one another.  Just have each club keep record of W-L for their members.

I like that idea.  That way we don't crowd the online games section with "Anyone up for a club match" type of threads.  We can post them here, and then move over to there.

I'm down for starting it off with a match representing Club USSR

Is anyone going to take on the challenge of looking after the league table?
It would seem pretty essential to have that in place before starting to play the matches really Laughing

I'll take care of the table...standings for us new worlders Smile

How does this sound, 2 points for a win, a bonus point if you win by half the match limit  ie 100 point game, when the game ends the winner has 50+ points in units more than the loser...

maybe another bonus point if the game ends in 4 rounds or less...

any thoughts on this or other ideas? Smile

how about a qualifier for the playoffs/finals...to qualify, your club has to play x ( I think 15 or 20 is a fair range) amount of matches, then you average your points/match played to determine the standings

the playoff could be a best of five match, where you each put up 5 different players [a club should have at least 3 members]

If you want go this route.  I would suggest best of 3 to make it shorter.  Also, to have 3 members to participate because you may not be sure who is available to play at the time.  The club can decide which 3 members.
