Post subject: How can users best contribute suggested units and statistics
|
|
|
Aside from Sharpe's recent posting of commanders, it appears there is a lull or slowdown in filling out additional units. This may be part of what the "thrown a track" poster was getting at. An answer to the lull might be to find a way to encourage and facilitate more users to contribute more suggested units and statistics, and to participate in discussion as the development goes forward.
For my part, I'd like to suggest some early war French and German units that I've been working on for a scenario. I may be missing something obvious here, but the current choices for posting don't seem desirable. The unit-specific forums do not allow non-moderators to post new topics. The library doesn't seem to be the right place. I notice a Hotchkiss H-35 topic had been posted in this general forum and later moved. I may post a few units here after finishing this post, but it would be inefficient to have topics on different units spread all around the general forum.
Perhaps the moderators could establish a sub forum or sub-sub forum (or whatever it would be) where users could suggest units, with a separate thread or topic for each unit. The topics could be grouped as has already been done in the infantry, artillery, vehicles, and aircraft subforums, with the difference being that any user could post a new unit for consideration. I also suggest there be a sticky to direct users to the right place, and to encourage suggestions.
I think there are a number of users who, like me, would be glad to suggest units and statistics. These suggestions would not run outside the decision making process established by the moderators. Instead, these suggestions are meant to simply provide some grist for the mill. Interested users could discuss the suggestions, unit by unit, in much the way the old HHR process worked. The difference here would be that at the appropriate point, after reasonable notice, the moderator could take what was there and plug it into the established development process.
This is NOT a complaint about the moderators, who have done great work and who have put much more time and thought into this project than I have. I just think the project could better maintain momentum if a thread for suggestions and discussion by all users were set up and promoted (or made more visible, if I have just missed it). _________________ HHRgamer |

Please feel free to start new threads in the FA General. We'll be moving them one by one to the unit subforums when needed.
However, about the stats, we typically use a specific methodology for each unit type, which is described in the unit stickies. As long as you suggest a unit and its S.A.s, there is little room for debate for the stats. It's the formulas that decide them . _________________

Thanks, N.D. Will do.
How about a sticky to guide other lost souls? I'm hoping we can get enough users to suggest units, and to provide technical specs and suggested SAs, to fill out some early war armies soon. _________________ HHRgamer |

No need to apologize. We need all the help and ideas we can get. Post 'em somewhere and we'll find them. _________________
