Just wondering if you people play "Early War", 1939-1941 games. By games I include scenarios or fixed points build, limited to those years.

I am a sort of a fan of these games (scenarios or points build). I am not a "power pieces" player like JagdTiger or Elephants.

I saw some people are not very happy with an Early War theme because "another Panzer II" is just a shitty piece that wont get played. So that is why we run this Poll to see how many players do not play this "period".

I hope they rescale that 35(t), Universal Carrier, T35 or the BT-7! Or some of them! And bring the Panzer I, cant wait for that piece - I hope it will have a nice mold.

My collection tends to say yes as I have multiples of many early war pieces and only one each of late war power gamer units.

Early war stuff should be fun to play.  I too am not a power gamer.  Smaller pieces should entice players to play the game rather than trading punch for punch (oh joy).  I have tried a few scenarios that were not made of the same points per side and found them quite enjoyable where my opponent found them one sided and not fair.

To be honest, at the beginning I was playing "points builds", until I discovered historical scenarios. After that, only scenarios for me and my playgroup.

I must confess, to prove a point I have played once the French (with some Poles added) in the Op. Adjacent scenario. That game gave me the best feeling ever when with the Polish Cavalry I took out the german Howitzer G18 Lel, while the Panhard damaged a Panzer III and took out the Pak 35/36.

In the end I've lost the town of Bethemont but just only, because my Somua failed me, in cover had a shot to the Panzers, it missed, while in return, received its Damage, while failing cover (damn). If I wouldn't have missed in that instance... well, anyway, cant wait for the Early War units to increase the historical "feeling" to my scenarios.

I am curios what stats that Pzkw I will have Very Happy The Lebel Gren could become a little dangerous now Smile

I play both and try to leave the power pieces out unless I know my opponent will bring one, and then I might consider it.  Played one game on line where I brought 2 big Soviet guns to a battle, it was alright.

Early games are more interesting to me.  Armchair General loves his Poles, so we play a lot of those.

Yes.  I used to do just brawls but scenarios do prove to be quite fun and to me, Early War is looking to be my favorite set.

Well, then ... I hope Early War will not disappoint all of us with quality issues (bendy barrels, wrong molds), hope it will sell enough in order to have a middle war set also.

It's more or less one month until launch, no new info? A few pics something? Would like to see the Pzkw I and the finns and... the rest Laughing

I'm hoping the shorter barrels will eliminate that problem.

I only play Early War games 39-40. With one exception for my old unit, I've only written scenarios for 40 & 41. I've been pushing for this set for years, so I'm really happy that it was finally made. With the exception of some common infantry I completed my full platoons and companies of Early War yesterday so I'm full of Early War joy at the moment.

Absomolutely I play early war. I scratch made sig 33s, french 155s, sFH18s, resin cast and army of T-26s, and aquaired a HUGE collection of cavalry. I have even resin cast chinese trucks. I have a large chinese army, french, and polish armies just for early war games. I am working on making resin cast artillery in 20,,, 75mm, 105mm top go with all my 6" guns (still need to make large french 6" gun).
Gotta love early war games. I use my own rules, which allow for larger games, and I get to integrate things like crew, medics, horses, carts, and all that cool stuff that means NOTHING if thier are heavy tanks running amuck. I mean, I love Panthers, King Tigers, etc, but thier is something appealing about games where almost every tank is at least slightly vulnerable to small arms fire or grenades. Every pice has a use in early war games - they are the bee's knees !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a great point. I like playing early war for the same reason. It's much more challenging! Smile

I just played the Polish 1939 scenario. It was a blast. Lvov looks to be really fun. I just like scenarios and they occur from all stages of the war.

I like open build tourneys, too, but scenarios are the shiznit.

I remember Panzer General, and the fact that you progressed with your army. It is really fun to begin with the basic early units and then upgrade them. With a friend of mine, we've played almost a year like that up to the Overlord invasion.
