Post subject: Commission An Artist For Repaints, Scratchbuilds & Mods.  Reply with quote   (Liked by:0)  Like this post
Hi guys, the following is a list of the Artists, Modders and Scratch Builders on the forum that will take on commission work for any members that may be interested. Any artists work can be found in the Forumini Exhibition Hall in the Modelling 101 subforum if members wish to have a preview of what they can expect.

Forumini Exhibition Hall

http://aaminis.myfastforum.org/forum72.php

The artists modders & scratch builders, charge at variable rates for their work so if any members are interested they should PM the artist they wish to do business with personally for their individual price lists. Of course you may make a request for work to be done right here on this thread if you wish, but prices will not to be listed on this thread at any stage.

It is important to note that all the artists modders and scratch builders listed lead busy lives, so requests for commission work should be made by appointment only. All the guys listed are approachable so dont be afraid to ask.

Finally any artist modder or scratchbuilder can request to be added or removed from the list at any time, you may contact me by PM or just leave a message here and I will adjust the list upon request.

Thanks all.

I didn't understand, why Modifications Modellers  and Scratch Build Modellers are two different sections? I think, that every scratch builder also modifies models. So may be, not every modification modeller make scratch builds?

And please remove me from the repainter lsit. Yes, i make reprints. But i didn't offer this Job (because i am not good enough to offer my service).

Thanks Dan I've been a bit busy. Don't think I've sat down at a proper computer for several weeks so it wouldn't have been hard to finish up that task. You can only do so much when your limited to iPhone.

I couldnt speak for Panzerpainter, but I recall seeing some ships done by him also... this was way back when I registered on this forum. Hence, you can ask Panzerpainter if to list him both Land and Sea... just sayin'

I am sure he can do wonderful things on the Wet side, only that I dont know if he still takes orders for ships or abandoned that sector all together. Worth asking him.

Is it possible to have a link to send a PM or email to each member offering his services in this forum so it is easier to communicate with them? Just a suggestion. Thanks.

I'd already thought of that, I'm not sure how the forum database works, if admin is able to make the artist or modellers name a link to their private message inbox that would be cool. Or if a little send PM icon could be pasted next to the artist or modellers name that would be even better.

Is that possible???

Question for any or all of you talent-soaked paintbrush jockeys:

Would it be possible to sell a single 15mm soldier figure painted to AAM standards (OK, but not fab; 4-5 colors) for $1 (without S/H) and stay in business?

How much would the figure have to cost?

What kind of volume would you have to do?

Sorry Sharpie, I have not been over here for a while mate, I'm not really sure about how to answer this question. I really know nothing about the Land side of things so I hope one of the AAM guys can come and answer your question for you, otherwise I suggest to ask one of the AAM painters in person via PM.

As long as you were not doing any highlighting, insignias, ink washing, or tiny details like knife scabbards, canteens, etc, $1 would be a reasonable rate. Infantry may sound simple, but by the time to straighten the metal minis out, remove flash, prime them, etc, you already have considerable time into them before you even pick up the brush. Doing 5 of them within 1 hour would be a real task, but doable if they are similar. So I would say you need to do at least 5 of any particular type to make it worth your time. Now the problem is how many groups of 5 are you needing to do to make it worth the communication, record keeping, packaging, etc. My best estimate would be that you need to do at least 20 men to make for a worthwhile order. Myself, I would go for the finer painting and shoot for around $3 each.
Painting may be fun, but if you have to bust your hump and crank them out real fast, your going to get real tired of this real soon. Also, if you have to work real hard and fast, for $5 an hour, you might want to do something else for money. If you have time on your hands, that makes it a lil different.
Figure out how much you want to make per hour, how many you can do in an hour, and do the math. One thing to remember though, the guy who paints minis for $, is the guy who is always asked "to do things". My wife is always giving me the "honey do" list. Honey, you arent busy, do this, do that, do this .........
People for some reason seem to think that painters are not working because they are home. This is probably true for most anyone who works at anything, at home. We are handi-capped by the perception that we are not "at work". So if you think you can paint 5 men per hour, then what you are more likely to get done is 3. If you think you can do 2 fine jobs per hour, you may end up settling for 1 per hour.
I have quoted tanks for $80 that took me the better part of a week to do, and settled for about $2 per hour.
Also, the more you try to do, the more you will stop loving painting. If it becomes a chore, then your speed will drop off dramatically. I am going through a bit of "burn-out" myself right now. I am taking a week off, just to get back into the mood.
So charge whatever you need to to end up with a reasonable per hour rate. Dont try to undersell the competation, or cater to what you think people will pay. Cater to your needs, thats what matters. If people wont pay what you think your time and work is worth, thier is really no way to make that work. Mor eimportant to find "clients" who appreciate good work and pay for it. Thier are people out there who know that you get what you pay for, and stick with it until you find those buyers. Dont be ruled by the buyers who want to get "a deal".
Wow - that was long, .... too long. My ADD gets me everytime. I have NO IDEA how to answer a simple question in a simple manner
