In response to Warspites' post on this battle here is a 300 point historical OOB scenario. This represents the naval battle between the two carrier forces. The actual convoy was never heavily attacked and only turned back due to the US air threat following the heavy damge inflicted on the Japanese carriers and air groups. So if the Americans win consider this to cause the convoy to turn back. If the Japanese win then the convoy has landed successfully.

USN - Rear Admiral Jack Fletcher - 301 points

CV Lexington
CV Yorktown
CA Minneapolis (use San Francisco)
CA's New Orleans and Astoria (use San Francisco model with TN New Orleans card)
CA's Chester, Chicago and Portland (use Houston model with TP Indianapolis card)
CA HMAS Australia
CL HMAS Hobart (use Sydney model with TN Perth card)
DD Phelps
DD's Morris, Anderson, Hammann, Russell and Walke (use any Fletcher class model with TN Wainwright card)
DD's Dewey, Farragut, Alywin and Monaghan (use V. Olga)
DD Perkins (use Bagley model with TP Smith card)
On the CV's 2 x Wildcat, 1 x Devastator, 3 x TN SBD-3 Dauntless

IJN - Vice Admiral Inoue Shigeyoshi - 300 points

CV Shokaku
CV Zuikaku
CVL Shoho
CA Myoko
CA Haguro
CA Aoba
CA's Kako, Kinugasa and Furutaka (use Aoba model with TP Furutaka card)
DD's Shigure, Ariake, Yugure and Shiratsuyu (use Shigure)
DD's Ushio, Akebono and Sazanami (use any Kagero class model with the TP Fubuki card)
On each CV an ace Zero, Val and B5N2 Type 97 Attack Bomber.
On Shoho a Zero (not ace)

The San Francisco and Aoba are representing two cards each. To distinguish the two flagships from their multiple sisters, mark them in some way, or just use a different cruiser model for them.

Please note that the American force exceeds the allowed number of units (by 2) and points (by 1). It would be easy to have the Americans on 300 points by making the Minneapolis into a New Orleans, but I wanted the San Francisco to give Admiral Thomas C. Kinkaid his Flagship. Alternatively change a Dauntless into a Devastator, but historically a 3:1 ratio was correct (70 SBD's: 25 TBD's).

I have given this quite a makeover to include many of the new TP/TN cards we now have.

The American destroyers are now much more historical. 10 Bagleys, when there were none actually present in the battle, did not sit well with me. I can now properly represent the 5 Sims and the Mahan. This encouraged me to find a proper proxy for the 4 Farraguts. The V.olga seemed a good fit for stats.

I also didn't like the multiple flagships (Aoba, Houston and San Francisco) so that 11 of the 13 CA's were Flagships. The three flagships now left nicely represent the flagships of Rear Admirals Goto, Kinkaid and Grace.

The increased points of the USN due their destroyers meant I had to downgrade the SBD's to the lighter scout version, but on the upside thay now get 3, which is more historical, and I like to think of them as having a lower bomb factor due to their green status in their 1st carrier v carrier encounter.

I have been looking at making this into a huge 500 point scenario as well. The Japanese make the transition very easily by adding in their Invasion and covering forces along with historical subs and land based aircraft. The Americans fall well short though. Giving them TG 17.6 (Oilers and escorts) historical subs and a fully stacked land air base (13) still leaves them well short.

The additional Japanese forces are hard to represent on the table though, with some units needing custom cards (Tenryu, Tatsuta, Kamikaze class DD's and the Nell and Mavis PB's) along with some units we don't have anything for (Kamikawa Maru and Tsugaru).

I might post it later or wait for the next sea Gods deck to see if we get any?

Do you have a new list?

I plan on using this OOB in a campaign.

Wish I had the minis to play, but I don't. Looks like a great scenario.
